Hardwood Stairs

Most of the time, the stairs are one of the first things people see when entering a house. That’s why replacing carpet stairs with hardwood stairs, or refinishing the existing hardwood stairs, can give your house a totally different and improved look. When refinishing your existing hardwood stairs you improve the natural and original look. You can even change the stain color.

Options for Hardwood Stairs

Hardwood Stairs

Sand and Finish

When replacing carpet with new hardwood stairs, you have two options during the process: using hardwood flooring in conjunction with a stair nosing or using the wooden stair treads. If you decide to refinish or replace with unfinished wood tread, you will need to sand and finish your stairs to get the desired color and shine. The sand and finish process includes all the steps from a regular hardwood floors refinishing, sand, stain and finish.

Re-sand & Re-coat

Just like a regular hardwood floor, hardwood stairs can be refinished, giving them a great new look. If your hardwood stairs were covered by carpet, your existing hardwood stairs have lots of scratches, or you just want to change the color to match your hardwood floors, re-sanding and re-finishing is the solution for you. This process includes all the steps from a regular hardwood floors refinishing (sand, stain, and finish), but the results can be great.

The risers are a very important part of the stair because it is the first part that we see. The risers can take the color of the stair tread, giving an uniform look, or they can be white, offering a great contrast between the wood stair tread and the face of the stair. The thickness of the risers can be different too, it usually starts from 1/4″ to 3/4″ and can reach 1″ or even wider. The risers used in building a new stair case are usually made by 1/2″ plywood.
